to figure how many mL to administer use
x=dose times volume/concentration
remember dose and concentration must be in same unit of measurement |
To figure how many mL per hour a pump should be set take
mL to be infused/hours to be infused
ex: 6000mL/6hrs=1000mL/hr |
1 teaspoon=__mL
5mL
1 tablespoon=__mL
15mL
1 ounce=__mL
30mL
1 standard measuring cup=___mL
240mL
1 kilogram=___lbs
2.2lbs
1000 grams=___lbs
2.2lbs
1 inch=___cm
2.5cm

How to figure mL/min with gtts set:
x= dose/time(mins) times gtts set
ex d=600mL time=60mins gtts=60gtts/mL x=600mL/60mins x 60gtts/mL =600gtts/min |
Formula method
X=dose x volume/concentration
Ex 3mg of Morphine Vial contains 10mg in 1mL So Dose=3mg Volume=1mL Concentraction=10mg X=mL to be administer 3mg x 1mL/10mg=0.3mL |
gtts/min
Drops per min
List the formula that will work for all
Weight x dose x volume x drip set
------------------------------------------------- Concentration x time = amount to administer Basically, you take what you need from the formula to get your answer. If your equation does not need a drip set, then just remove it from the formula. For example, try a Lidocaine Bolus. Weight of the patient is 100 kg Dose to use is 1.5 mg/kg Concentration of the drug is going to be 20mg/cc So, to set up our formula... Weight (100 kg) x Dose (1.5 mg/kg) x Volume (1 mL) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Concentration (20 mg) 150 mL ------ 20 = 7.5 mL of Lidocaine to be administered |
g to mg
g times 1000
So 1g x 1000=1000mg |
mg to g
Move decimal three times to the left.
So 1000mg is 1.0g |
g to mcg
g times 1,000,000
So 1g x 1000,000=1000,000mg |
mcg to g
Move decimal six times to the left.
So 1,000,000mcg is 1g |
mg to mcg
mg times 1000
So 1,000mg x 1000 =1,000,0000mcg |
mcg to mg
Move decimal 3 times to the left.
So 1,000,000mcg is 1000mg |
