Coil
* a single wire can be looped into a coil, concentrating the magnetic field
solenoid
*the most common form of electromagnetic device is a coil with many turns.
*field lines that are closer together indicate a higher magnetic field. |
The strength of the magnetic field near the wire depends on two factors
1. the strength is directly proportional to the current-doubling the strength of the current, doubles the strength of the field.
2. field strength is inversely proportional to the distance from the wire. The field gets stronger as you move closer tot he wire. |
How is magnetism created?
*by moving charges/electrons.
Force between 2 coils
*2 coils carrying electric current exert forces on each other, just like magnets.
*froces can be attractive or repulsive depending on the direction of current coils. |
