Ic gathers info and should inform you of what?

Number of people involved in incident

Approximate ages of people involved

Any People involved who have mobility issues or dependencies

Info gathered from fire survival calls

Last know location and activity of incident

Location in relation to the fire

Building movies may have plans of premises attached to a wall adjacent to an alarm panel

I’m absence of this, good practice for IC to send FF to unaffected floor to report back in general layout of floor

Search co-ordination (WM minimum) tasks

Gather info

Assisting IC or sector commander in co-ordinating the search and recording information concerning the search on a forward info board

How many wearers can be connected together at once and why?

4 - no team member more than 6m from the team leader who must maintain contact with the wall

IC should select and implement most appropriate method of searching a premises in accordance with what things?

Any pre planning

Number and location of persons involved

The type of structure to be searched

The scale and complexity of the incident

The hazards and risks prevented

The other tasks to be achieved eg, firefighting, structural safety, shoring

Search brows for team may require search to commence either at:

Point of entry

Point if greatest danger for casualties within an area

Close to likely seat of fire

Or at some other designated point within the structure

Two methods of searching a structure

Compartment search

Directional search

Principle of compartment search

Ba team will attempt to fully search each compartment entered before moving on to next compartment

Principle of directional search

Ba teams will search in a specific directional. Clear all compartments but not necessarily before moving between compartments

Advantages and limitations of compartment search

Systematic and relatively simplistic procedure to apply

More suitable for certain types of structure where all rooms are largely cleared as the search progresses

This method does not necessarily clear a compartment before the BA team moves on

There is potential to pass a fire compartment which may compromise the means of escape for BA teams

Directional search advantages and limitations

Each compartment is mapped out systematically as the BA teams progress

Suitable for range of structures particularly complex multi-compartmented structures with many interconnecting rooms

Large compartments may not be able to be fully cleared due to un searched areas in the centre of the compartment

Disciplined and systematic observance of the search brief by the BA team is essential
