Cinderella Man shares a true story of the rags-to-riches boxer James J. Braddock. Struggling to provide during The Great Depression, James Braddock worked any job he could find. Drawing in the viewer’s emotions, while showing the grueling conditions Mr. Braddock endured to provide for his family. The Bulldog of Bergen provides an inspiring story for many. Cinderella Man follows James J. Braddock through The Great Depression, as his professional boxing career comes to an impasse. Making every effort to keep his family off the streets, James Braddock took to the docks to work as a laborer, while trying to find fights to supplement his income. After sustaining a broken hand during a fight Braddock is forced to work through the pain at the docks as his family depends on him to stay afloat. Finally reaching the breaking point, his wife Mae, felt forced to send their children away to stay with family members who could provide more for the children. James cannot stand separating the family and begs boxing officials to help him through his troubled times. Receiving enough money to turn the lights back on, Braddock’s agent Joe Gould lands Braddock a fight that reignites his boxing career.
