Noticing the suburb’s negative influence on the sense of community, the Disney Company decided to create a town called Celebration, in hope that a better way of designing urban life will bring citizens closer. This small town located about five miles south of Disney World in Orlando in the state of Florida represents an unfulfilled dream that Walt Disney envisioned shortly before his death. Three decades later, the Disney Company announced the creation of Celebration, which was inspired by Disney’s original vision of EPCOT (The Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow), which evolved into Epcot Center, an amusement park at Disney. Several changes were made to Disney’s original plan since the Disney Corporation realized that Walt Disney’s original plan would place the company under enormous development costs and uncertain financial return (Kargon and Mollela 134). Celebration projected a population of 20,000 in about 8,000 housing units spread in about 5000 acres (135). The amount of space it uses is almost the same as Garden City, an utopian town planned by Ebenezer Howard. “Disney conceived the idea of a city that would be living experiment showing the way for others” (132-133).
