My story begins at Onteora Scout Reservation in Upstate New York. The Boy Scouts of America have an honor society known as the Order of the Arrow, which is for Scouts who wish to dedicate themselves to an order that serves others more than that of the Boy Scouts. Scouts are selected through a troop-wide vote, and I was one of the few scouts selected to participate in the ordeal to join this order. The ordeal was a series of tests in order to confirm that we, the candidates, are fit to join this order. He became what is known as an “elangomat,” or the person who leads us through our ordeal. Robert was evidently new to his job, as he was extremely nervous and clearly had stage fright. Many stories of the ordeal originate from this man, as he proved to be a major klutz – unprepared and scared out of his mind. Robert also proved to be a very timid person. Many candidates spoke, breaking their vows of silence, but he had a tough time trying to control them. Robert did a poor job at preparing for our service projects, as he was not notified of the time and location. In addition to this, he also worked us candidates out to an excessive amount of 6…

”After Twelve, age isn’t important. Most of us even lose track of how old we are...What’s important is the preparation for adult life and the training you’ll receive.” This quote is from the book, The Giver, and even though it was said in a fictional world where everything is always perfect, it still can relate a great deal to reality. We might not lose track of how we are, or agree that age is not important after twelve, but it is important to be prepared for adulthood. Everyone needs good…

Safety is very important in our facility. Therefore, since I have started I made sure we had a meeting during our lunch break discussing the safety protocols. The purpose of this was to inform everyone what to do and where to go if something dangerous ever occurs. With so many things that have happened lately in the world it was important for me to make sure everyone feels safe and secure working here. I do hope that we never get to actually do any of these things but if there is an accident at…

Boy Scouts was initially something that I never truly expected to enter my life. The most exposure I had of it was cartoonish representations that I would see in the funnies section of the newspaper or spoofs of the organization in my daily cartoons. This all changed when my friend one day invited me over to one of the weekly meetings. I was a little scared at first, a group of people I didn’t know was frightening to my middle school self. But for some reason; I’m not sure now if it was the…
