This was formed due to the lack of any help of anyone for the veterans who came back from war and had to take care of themselves. Every year amongst all of the members of the VFW which total to almost 1.7 million, contribute to more than 8.6 million volunteer hours within the community and through other outlets (VFW, 2016.) Being established that early on allowed the Legion to find it’s niche plant it’s roots and do nothing but flourish from there. At the local level they have posts, which there are a lot of them throughout every state. A post is the lowest on the totem pole as far as national, state, and local levels are concerned. Posts are established to conduct business matters, raising money, and for hanging out such as a bar. They cover the wartime’s of World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, also the Persian Gulf War and the war on terrorism as well. With being around so long this gives them the edge over any other organization. The Legion provides its members with aid; sometimes a post to hangout at or events to travel to and prosper from, and it is open to the Air Force, Army, Navy, Coast Guard as well as the Marines.
