First Day Of The Battle of GettysBurg
July 1st, 1862 is the day and the year of the famous Battle Of Gettysburg, and it had took its starting point.The Battle of Gettysburg was extremely important because of the effect it had and the it was a big turning point in the war . It also meant that it was the first battle the North was on the defense instead of the offense against the Confederacy on their own land. The south was on a winning streak and they have won consecutive battles and were close to the end . the South was extremely close to putting a horrific and dark ending to the union and finally taking the victory . Confederate General Robert E Lee found a hole in the Potomac army and outsmarted Hooker causing surround him and lose the battle. 12,000 soldiers died in that single battle alone and yet again the end is shining for Lee. Abraham Lincoln being very angry at Hooker for not pursuing Lee's army front head on because Hooker was behind Lee's army tailing him. For those action Lincoln fired hooker. General Meade is replaced by thought to be a much better general which is Meade. Meade was born in Spain,1815. Meades father was a U.S Naval Officer and years later his father died in 1828. The death of his father caused Meade and his family to lack a constant income to support the family therefore his mother and him returned back into United States, Virginia.In 1831 Meade even though not having much of a drive to be a military general enrolled into the very famous Military Academy At West Point in Virginia and graduated four years later finishing 19th in his class in …show more content…
Lee is consistently succeeding to winning the war and with confidence attempts to shift the war into the North. Instead of fighting in the South and accidentally meets the brigade of General Rufus Dawes of the Union. General Dawes small army but powerful army of only 400 dedicated soldiers had locked the Confederates into a corner. The small platoon of General Joseph R. Davis had surrendered near the unfinished railroad cut west of Gettysburg. Still in the beginning of the first day of the battle of Gettysburg . Lee is marching into Gettysburg with an outnumbered amount of 75,000 Confederate soldiers and soon will take on General Meade and his Potomac army of 90,000 union soldiers.
