Her role as a regional manager, included responsibility for all of the onboarding managers within Alberta and British Columbia. When I was transferred into the new role, there was no one from my team in the same city or on the floor that I worked on to explain any first day orientation procedures. Ironically, I was astonished as this team was responsible for all the onboarding orientation for the sales and front line customer service representatives. However they had nothing in place for management regarding onboarding them to their new roles. What I would suggest to the organization would be to utilize the technology to their advantage, create an onboarding orientation to be virtually delivered online. This however should not replace the regional manager from coming to Edmonton to greet the new employee on their first day, who would then be able to introduce themselves as well as provide a tour. The other area that I would improve on would be to implement a managerial training program that covers, How to manage virtual and remote teams. Thanks to technology and globalization, more and more organizations have teams dispersed across multiple locations.
