The Sons of Italy is an national organization created to celebrate and continue the traditions and foster the heritage that the Italian immigrants would be bringing over to the United States, specifically to the state of Nebraska. They constructed a small community just south of downtown Omaha for the new Italian immigrants to settle; the neighborhood was created right before the Great Italian Migration in 1913.
The Great Depression had a limited effect on Nebraska in the 1930s, Omaha faced few hardships. The New Deal, created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, took place from 1933 to 1939 and provided economic relief …show more content…
The Great Plains Black Museum is one of the country’s largest centers of African American culture. The Modernization of downtown Omaha took place in the 1970s. The Old Market, Gene Leahy Mall, and the Henry Doorly Zoo, were assembled during the reconstruction, and in 2002 The Qwest Center, now know as the CenturyLink Center, and in 2008, The Bob Kerry Pedestrian Bridge were also built. Rosenblatt Stadium had hosted the baseball College World Series in 1950. The College World Series has taken place in Omaha ever since, but the Rosenblatt Stadium was later knocked down and T.D. Ameritrade Stadium took its place, carrying on the unique baseball traditions. A holiday was created in Nebraska as well. Arbor day was constituted in 1872 and it a tree planting day.
