The research will be set up with three different groups of students taking the same Spanish class. One group will be tested on the material in complete silence. The second group will be tested in a setting with classical music playing in the background. While the third group is tested in the courtyard of the university. The results of the research will provide information for other and future college students who are taking mandatory classes along with how their study habits affect them. The first 150 students to sign up for the experiment will be granted extra credit points for their class. This will prevent those who like the Spanish class more, from taking all the spots available in the experiment. The selected 150 students will join in the class to count off what group they will be in. Each student will be randomly placed in one of three groups.
Materials
Once the students are placed in their groups, they will be asked to answer yes or no to one question. The question will ask if they enjoy taking the current Spanish class. Three different areas will be needed to place each student in their noise level environment. Each student will be provided one test and pencil in order to complete the test. Two other teachers will be used so each group of students has a proctor present.
