How does the structure and properties of phospholipids relate to their function in cell membranes? |
Phospholipids like to line up and arrange themselves into two parallel layers, called a phospholipidbilayer The phospholipid bilayer is selectively permeable. The heads are hydrophilic and the tails are hydrophobic, so only certain materials are able to enter the cell. There are also proteins imbedded in the bilayer to transport materials into and out of the cell. |
