Red blood cells

These cells transport oxygen around your body

White blood cells

These cells are used to protect against diseases.

Platelets

These are used to help with blood clotting. These trap the blood while a scab begins to form

Artery

Carries blood away from heart

●carries blood under high pressure

●has thick muscular walls and elastic fibres that stop the artery rupturing when blood is being pumped through it

Veins

Veins carry de-oxygenated blood at low pressure to the heart.

●Veins have valves which stop back flow of blood.

●Has a larger lumen and thinner muscle and elastic fibre walls than arteries

Capillaries

These vessels link arteries with veins

●They are found all over the body

●They are essential for the exchange of materials between the blood and other body cells

●The wall of a capillary is only one cell thick

Effects of exercise in order( step 1&2)

1. During exercise, the muscles of the body require more energy from respiration because they are working harder.

2.The heart will pump blood to your body bells faster in order to supply the raw materials needed for exercise

Step 3,4 & 5

3.Body cells then take oxygen from the blood and put carbon dioxide in the blood.

4.The blood from body cells will now return to the right side of your heart from your veins

5.Your heart will pump blood in your arteries to your lungs

Step 6,7 & 8

6.Then the blood collects oxygen and gets rid of the CO2 by exhaling

7.Finally,the blood leaves your lungs in the veins to go back to the left side of your heart and the whole process happens again

8. When done exercising the heart will start to recover. How fast this happens depends on how fit you are.
