What metal are amplatzer devices made of?

Nickel

NPH insulin hypersensitivity reaction to protamine

Back/flank pain, flushing, peripheral vasodilation, vasomotor collapse

Incidence of device erosion with amplatzer devices

0.1 %

Findings in Barth syndrome

List three indications for balloon pulmonary valvuloplasty
1. Critical valvar PS (ductal-dependent); 2. peak to peak cath or peak echo gradient >40; 3. valvar PS with symptoms, RV dysfunction, or shunt-mediated cyanosis
What balloon: annulus ratio is recommended for pulm valvuloplasty?
1.2-1.4x the annulus
Treatments for suicide RV
volume, restart PGE, beta blocker, RVOT stent
List indications for balloon aortic valvuloplasty
1. Critical AS (ductal-dep); 2. AS + depressed LV function (regardless of gradient); 3. Peak cath gradient >50; 4. Peak cath gradient >40 + symptoms
What echo gradient needed for cath to consider balloon aortic valvuloplasty?
Use mean Doppler gradient >40 to refer for cath if aysymptomatic. If pregnant or desiring to do competitive sports, can use gradient >30.
What balloon: annulus ratio is recommended for aortic valvuloplasty?
0.8-1x the aortic annulus
How is >moderate mitral stenosis defined (cath)
peak gradient >20, mean >15, near systemic PA pressure; MV area <1 cm/m2, and symptoms
What are indications for branch PA angioplasty?
Peak gradient 20-30, RVp > 1/2 to 2/3 systemic; flow discrepancy greater than 35/65; angiographic apperance of significant narrowing
What are indications for coarctation balloon?
recoarctation ONLY with gradient >20 by cath vs. recoarctation gradient <20 with collaterals, single V, or ventricular dysfunction
How to size balloon for coarctation
Balloon diameter = 2-3x diameter of stenosis, but balloon can't be greater than 1 mm larger than diameter of proximal or distal vesel. Stent choice would also be the same as the adjacent vessel
