11.Name 4 risks in a fire situation for each of the following.
b.Gang-nailed roof trusses. (4 marks)
|
b.Gang-nailed roof trusses. (4 marks) The timbers used are thinner. There may not be a ridge board between them. The nails are 8mm-10mm long, as opposed to 100-150mm used in traditional construction. Tests have shown it take 7 minutes to char to a depth of 4mm, which will severely weaken a roof made of truss plates. The lower horizontal member of the roof may not rest of a load-bearing wall. Failure of any of the roof members could result in the collapse of the roof.
