The mode of narration that an author uses to let the readers "hear" and "see" what takes place in a story |

The story is narrated by one character at a time this character may be speaking about him or herself or sharing events that he or she is experiencing |

2nd person (pov) |
The narrator tells the story to another character using 'you' the author could be talking to the audience which we could tell by the use of 'you' 'you're' or 'your' |

3rd person objective (pov) |
The narrator tells a story without describing any characters thoughts opinions or feelings we know what the characters in the story are thinking about through the use of dialogue |

3rd person limited (pov) |
The narrator only knows the thoughts and feelings of one character all characters are described using pronouns such a as ' they,he and she' but 1 character is closely followed throughout the story typically a main character |

3rd person omniscient (pov) |
The narrator knows the thoughts and feelings of more than 1 character the author may move from character to character to show how each one contributes to the plot |

Direct characterization |
The writer makes statements about a characters personality and tells what the character is like ( tells the reader what the character is like) |

The writer reveals information about a character and his personality through that characters thoughts, words and actions along with how other characters respond to that character ( what they think about the character ) shows the reader what the character is like |
