8.1 Significance of the concept
The concept is significant as the purpose of research is to inform action. A research produces knowledge that is applicable outside of the research setting with implications that go beyond the sample or selected population. Furthermore, the results of a research have implications for policy and project implementation.

This concept forms the basis for reporting on health events in the current world. In an epidemic it is important to know which set of persons are affected and who are the persons most affected and those who are likely to be affected. Also in the case of a pandemic the calculations will tell how quickly the health event is spreading and the probability of it spreading.
Concept 10.0 Uses of epidemiology in public health
This concept is in Module 11
Epidemiology is the study of the distribution and determinants of health and disease-related states in populations, and the application of this study to control health problems. Epidemiology is thus very useful to the field of public health in the control and prevention of catastrophic health disasters.
10.1 Significance of the concept
The functions of epidemiology are clearly defined and give an idea of what is entailed in the discipline of epidemiology. The functions are significant as they help us to:
1. Discover the agent, host, and environmental factors which affect …show more content…

10.2 Current research activities related to the concept/implementation of activities related to the concept
Noroviruses are a major cause of infectious gastroenteritis worldwide, and the viruses can establish persistent infection in immune-compromised individuals. From 2010 to 2013 a retrospective review among immune-compromised patients enrolled in research studies at National Institutes of Health Clinical Center and identified a subset of norovirus positive patients who provided stool specimens for norovirus genotyping analysis. Norovirus was identified as the leading enteric pathogen in this immune-compromised population.
10.3 Application of concept in current job
As Public Health Practitioners we aim as best as possible while practising preventive medicine, to provide scientific basis for prevention of disease, injury and the promotion of health. Therefore, collection and testing of samples and specimen is done whenever there is an outbreak so as to identify causative agent, host and environments. Health Education is done as well to make persons aware. During routine inspections, search is done to identify and control host, agent and environment of diseases. In Zika Virus outbreak the section of the population with greatest risk – the pregnant mothers- from specific causes of ill health were targeted so that the indicated action was directed
