Bunker Hill and the Hessian Hirelings

In May 1775, a small force of americans led by Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold captured the British at Ticonderoga and Crown Point.
In June, 1775- Colonists seized bunker hill. They ran out of ammunition and had to abandon it. In July 1775, The Continental Congress drafted the Olive Branch Petition. It was ignored. They were declared in a state of rebellion and the British hired German Hessians. |

Conquest of Canada

The Americans planned a two pronged attack against Britain. British General Montgomery pushed up Lake Champlain and captured Montreal. He was met by Benedict Arnold in Quebec. Montgomery was killed and bitter fighting persisted in the colonies.

In 1776, Thomas Paine had published Common Sense. He sold 120,000 copies and it became a success. He questioned why a small country controlled the large.
