What are the layers in a hair follicle? |

Product Recommendations for Diameter of Hair |
Thin, recommend products with "grip," adds hold and expands hair strand without weighing down. Thick, recommend products with "slip," adds oil/shine and contracts hair strand to make curl smooth and controlled. |

Consistency of Hair |
Feeling of hair, Smooth, Medium, or Rough. |

Determining Consistency |
Uncolored, natural hair, Smooth will have a natural sheen, Rough will be more matte. Medium will be inconsistent. |

Environmental Damage to Hair |
Caused by environmental factors, e.g. water, sun. Generally leads to lack of moisture in hair. Can be remedied by adding moisture into hair. |

Caused by styling tools such as curling iron. Hair feels dry and may have some breakage. To remedy add moisture and/or protein back into hair. |

Chemical Damage to Hair |
Caused by chemicals such as color. Breaks down strength of hair, causing weak spots. To remedy, strengthen by adding protein back into the hair. |
