Osmoregulation |
Control of water potential of body fluids |
|
How ADH is secreted? |
Osmoreceptors in hypothalamus detects low in water potential in blood. The osmoreceptors send out impulse and trigger action potential to pituitary gland. The pituitary gland secretes ADH |
|
How ADH works? |
ADH binds to the receptor proteins on cell surface membrane of collecting duct. This activates a series of enzyme controlled reactions. Active phosphorylase enzyme is activated. This stimulates the movement of vesicles containing aquaporins towards cell surface membrane.
Thus water moves out of the collecting duct. This increase the permeability of the wall of collecting duct. Thus water moves out of the collecting duct. Urine becomes concentrated and low in volume. The water potential of body fluids return to normal Urine becomes concentrated and low in volume. The water potential of body fluids return to normal |
