According to the U.S. Department of Education the test scores of many groups of students have gone up considerably and are at an all time high (“No Child Left Behind…”). This would seem to indicate that NCLB is doing that best that it can as scores are at an all time high. But, first of all in this post describing the victories of NCLB not a single high school grade achievement is mentioned. The majority of the increases that occurred happened in fourth grade class rooms with only one eighth grade statistic that stated that they “made more progress in basic math skills than the national average” (“No Child Left Behind…”). This indicates that it is only effective at the lower grades and that as the students get older NCLB becomes less effective. Also, regardless of already obtained positive results, the fact that music education has been shown to always improve academic achievement demonstrates that regardless of the fact that success may have occurred, there would have been greater success has music education continued to be consistently funded. The other argument is that there is simply a correlation between music and academic success as those in a higher socioeconomic status (SES) on average score higher on tests and do better and schools, and are the ones who join music
