Do you believe in love at first sight? (Rhetorical Question) Romeo and Juliet did and it lead to both of their deaths. Romeo believed that he was in love, a feeling he had never truly felt before. As a young teen, you could expect that he would make some irrational decisions, but nothing like what he did to be with who he believed to be his true love. Romeo Montague's fatal flaw was his impulsiveness due to falling in love and marry Juliet, becoming a murderer, and taking his own life . However, after meeting Juliet he was not upset at all about Rosaline. When asked by his pastor if he had been with Rosaline all night, Romeo stated “With Rosaline, father? No, I have forgotten that girl and all the sadness she brought me”(Shakespeare). Friar Lawrence responded with “Have you given up so quickly on Rosaline, whom you loved so much? Then young men love with their eyes, not with their hearts. Jesus and Mary, how many tears did you cry for Rosaline?”(Shakespeare). When Romeo met Juliet, he knew that he wanted to be with her forever, no matter the circumstance. The night they met Romeo was already saying that if they couldn’t be together, he didn’t want to live. When hiding from Juliet’s relatives, Romeo said “The darkness will hide me from them. And if you don’t love me, let them find me here. I’d rather they killed me than have to live without your love”(Shakespeare). Romeo believed that having Juliet was his only way to happiness and if he didn’t have that, life wasn’t worth living. When Romeo learns of Juliet’s apparent death, he immediately knew what he was going to do. “Experts say that even at ages 16 and 17, when compared to adults, juveniles on average are more likely to overlook alternative courses of action”(Teens Brains Hold key to their Impulsiveness). Romeo didn’t even think of any other alternative to killing himself and didn’t consider any of the consequences or the amount of pain it would cause both his family and Juliet’s. All he was thinking about was that he wanted to be with Juliet and that suicide was the only way to get that
