Hae Min Lee Story

At least one third of female homicide victims were killed by a past or current partner (Scheller). This statistic makes it more likely that Adnan Syed did in fact kill his ex girlfriend, Hae Min Lee. A woman named Sarah Koenig hosts a podcast called “Serial”. It follows the homicide of a girl named Hae Min Lee who is believed to have been killed by former boyfriend, Adnan Syed, on January 13th, 1999 in Baltimore, Maryland. He is currently serving his life sentence in prison. There is speculation on whether Adnan did do it, but a witness named Jay has a story of what happened that day. Due to Jay’ knowledge of the situation, which doesn’t add up with his friendship with Adnan, Adnan did kill Hae.
The way Jay’s story matches certain parts of Adnan’s cellphone’s call log can’t be just a lucky coincidence. He would not be able to pinpoint and describe certain situations and evidence if his story was not true. There’s an outgoing call to a girl named Nisha about an hour after the time slot where Hae supposedly died. The only person who knows Nisha is Adnan, and this places him with the phone. Also relating to the call log, Adnan’s phone pings towers near Leakin park twice at around 7 that night

Ask this; if Adnan did not carry out this crime, why is Jay able to tell police specific details about the crime? Jay led the police to Hae’s car (Koenig, “The Deal With Jay”). This shows that he had accurate knowledge of something pertaining to the crime. Also, Jay told police that Hae was buried on her right side, which was how she was found (still searching for where I found this). Again, this shows us exactly how Jay has knowledge of specific things that happened; he would have to be really lucky to guess how she was laying and be correct. He would not have been able to share these things with the cops if he had no knowledge of them,

The reason it is believable Adnan hired a hitman was because he did not want to get his hands dirty. But something happened and that is why Jay had to incriminate Adnan, many clues can prove Adnan and Jay did not kill Hae. For example the cell towers and timing, how they are off with the time that Hae died. Also who better than Jay to help Adnan find someone, after all he…

The many events in the revealing of the truth were both significant in some cases and in other, more proof that Jay was with Adnan the day of the murder like he says. Kernel events that Jay explains that help give authenticity to his testimony is the where about of Hae Lee’s car. Jay showed the detectives where she parked therefore making his statement more reliable. Another kernel event was Jays timeline of the day Hae was murder in comparison to the cell phone towers that logged where Adnan’s cellphone was located at during what time. Another event that Jay said took place was that they went to the mall after Adnan disposed of the body and Jenn met them there to pick Jay up, this is a satellite event because if Adnan had never murdered Hae in the first place who knows if they would have been there together, but Jenn is…

Jay Wilds, who was a friend of Adnan’s, took a plea deal and told the police that Adnan showed him Hae’s body in the trunk of her car at the local Best Buy. He also confessed to helping Adnan ditch Hae’s car at the Interstate 70 Park and Ride and assisting in the burying of Hae’s body (Chivvis, 2014). He led the police to Hae’s car and once it was located Adnan was arrested. On February 25, 2000, Adnan was convicted of first-degree murder and on June 6, 2000, he was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years (Chivvis, 2014). His heroic testimony against his good friend is the main reason the state was able to correctly convict Adnan. In his sworn statement, Jay affirms Adnan killed Hae and that he saw her dead body. He tells investigators, “all [he could] see [was that] Hae’s lips [were] all blue, and she [was] pretzeled up in the back of the trunk. And she [was] dead.” This descriptive account of Jay’s first interaction with the deceased corps is very clear evidence that he was a witness to this disgusting act.…

There sitting atop a carriage, Vin was surveying the border, the out vigilant gunslinger. The fastest gun shooter around and baddest of them all. But contrary to that, he should not have been able to tell that he was high if he could remember that but not the call. Adnan comes right out and tells us “I do remember being high at the time because the craziest thing is to be high and have the police call your phone. I will never forget that.” (Koenig, “The Case Against Adnan Syed”). Being able to remember this detail but not being able to recall anything us from the day can lead us to believe that he killed Hae on this day and he is trying to cover up for it by…

For certain serial killers, the type of victims they chose to kill sometimes may end up being their downfall and so careful consideration is done to diminish this threat of detection by selecting people who for the most part, “no one would miss” (CITE). The story of having a serial killer in your own hometown is usually thought of as juicy news material that any news station would kill to get their hands on and yet, John Michael Crawford gathered very little attention for the horrific deeds he committed from any news outlet. Society judges the importance of an event based on the level of media coverage, this case did not receive much attention compared to other cases at the time despite its severity because the victims ascribed and achieved…

Certainly the jurors thought it was a crime of passion, although the judge did not think it was not a good motive. The jurors during this case were as quick as lightning and convicted Adnan of first-degree murder, in under two hours. How can a jury convict someone for first degree murder in under two hours, especially not having enough evidence to prove Adnan did kill Hae? All they had was Jay’s testimony, which brings me to my second reason as to why Adnan is innocent of the murder of Hae Lee.…

Even with all of this in mind, the court sees him as the main suspect and is not dissuaded by his normal persona. They pin him as Hae Min Lee’s killer by using the jealous boyfriend stereotype. It is also bad for his case when there are phone records and accounts of him acting strange on the day of her murder. Jay seems to be the only one that has a story that is sound enough to have Adnan as the main suspect.…

Now, say you were a person with an extensive knowledge of forensic science. You could confidently inform the person that Cerebral Edema is simply the presence of large amounts of water in the brain. This isn’t knowledge that the average citizen commits to memory, this is knowledge that those who have delved deep into the world of forensics know and express easily.…

In addition Jay mentions Patapsco Park in his interview with the police, but he never says anything about it during the trial because it messes with the timeline the prosecution has. Another thing they didn’t mention in court was Asia McClain’s alibi for Adnan that day.
