That morning was when cast lists were posted. They were taped to the cold meatal wall of the playhouse, which is one of the theaters at camp. But as I got down there I knew something had happened, something unexpected. As soon as I showed up I was getting all the attention, it was all about me. I glanced at the list, expecting to see evens name, I already had my congratulations speech planned in my head, everyone did. But instead I saw my name, at the top in bold letters, it read, SEYMOUR: FRANKIE NIEMAN. I looked around, trying to find Evan. We were in the same bunk and we had been for several years. I knew I would probably see him back at the bun, so I turned around and there he was. Standing there looking me dead in the eyes. He was about thirty feet away and I could practically taste his bitterness it was so strong. We stood there, staring, and then he turned and disappeared into the crowd.
Once I saw my name on that list I knew that facing Evan was going to be the hardest part. The thing is I did not know how I was going to do it, and I never had to. I avoided him for the rest of the week. We did not talk for that whole time. Then I realized I had made a mistake, I had given up one of my most valuable friendships in exchange for a silly little role at a summer camp. It had felt like I was doing the right thing but I was just being selfish. I decided I would go up to him and just flat out apologize. So the next day I walked up to him, made eye contact, but this time, I opened my
