Although his early career was prosperous, Reagan’s political career helped him change the world. Reagan turned from movies to politics in 1964, when he helped Barry Goldwater run for president (Ritter and Henry 12). After helping Goldwater, many conservatives influenced Reagan to run for governor of California (Orr 35). In 1966, Reagan ran against Edmund Brown for governor of California (Banks 200) and won (Sidey 143). Regan’s fame and training from Hollywood helped him win the election for governor (Orr 35). When Reagan became governor of California, he promptly began to cut state spending (Banks 200). He was the governor of California from 1966 to 1974 (Orr 35).
