Literary Analysis: Animal Farm Books or stories that represent historical events are few and far between. These types of literature are often found in history books or biographies of historic figures. More often than not, history books are not entertaining to read and are not suitable for most readers. Animal Farm, by George Orwell is a novel that uses symbolism, personification, and historical context to tell the story of the Russian Revolution. The animals are used to specifically describe people of all kinds during the Russian Revolution and that is what keeps readers interested. This novel is intended for audiences from teenagers to adults because of the historical context that is also included. However, the historical context would not be effectively achieved if the author was unable to keep his readers coming back to read more. Each animal has several human- like characteristics including maneuvering objects with their hooves and communicating with each other using the English language. In the beginning of the story the animals are also taught the alphabet and how to read. This is quite impressive because the animals would not be able to come up with their faulty commandments if they were not granted the ability to communicate by the author. By taking advantage of personification, the author fills voids that may have been confusing to readers otherwise. In other words, the information about the Russian Revolution would not make any sense unless the animals were able to communicate.
